Martins Beach

I can’t remember why I visited Martins Beach the first time, or how I even know of its existence, but the photo above was the first photo I ever took there. Martins Beach is a little crescent-moon shaped beach near Half Moon Bay with with a small sea stack in the middle.
When the tide is low, the kelp washes onto the beach and the air smells like fish and iron. If the tide is low-enough, you can even walk right up to the sea stack and get a look at the small tide pools.

In the summer, flowers bloom along the path to the beach.

If you go to the other side of the sea stack you can see that there’s a gap going all the way through.

I visited the area several times throughout the years with the hopes of getting a starry night shot. Unfortunately, I have never been lucky enough to get a night with low tide, no clouds, without much haze, with a new moon, and with a visible milky way on a weekend.

I was able to get some cool low-light photos at the beach, but will need to go back sometime for that illusive shot.
